The Secrets to Bigger Tips

Stand by me!

Most of us feel uncomfortable facing another person,
face to face, with a barrier separating us.

Whether it be a neighbors' fence, a desk between you and an job interviewer, the desk between you and your teacher in school, or the big desk between you and the banks loan officer, we all feel uncomfortable communicating with each other, when divided by an object.

When you are tending bar or serving your customers at a restaurant, there is usually a bar or a table separating you.

Whenever you have a chance, remove that barrier!

For example, if you are bartending, and have to go
out from behind the bar for some reason, on the way back,
stop BESIDE some customers at the bar.

Come down from your ivory tower.
Talk to them on THEIR side of the bar.

Or you can also do this if you are serving a table,
and the situation is right, (maybe check with your manager first)

When it's time to present the bill, pull up a chair and sit down beside your customer for just a moment, or simply squat at eye level beside the table.

Make eye contact and have a quick conversation. Or make a quick comment.
But make sure you make eye contact at the same level, with nothing between you!
Thank them for coming in!

The results are great!!

(obviously this tip is establishment specific:)
DON'T pull up a chair and sit down at the table
beside your customer at a fine dining establishment!!

Try and remove the barrier between you and your
customer whenever you can.

Your customer will warm up to you and they will
feel "closer" to you.

They'll feel like you're "their kind of people."

What does this mean to you?

Usually a bigger tip for you!

Give it a try.
