( I recommend that you read the A.W.E.S.O.M.E.Service post first)
Before putting AWESOME service into play there are four very important factors that you must be aware of.
The first is your
attitude.
Your attitude is one of the few things you have absolute control over. No one else can affect the way you feel and how you choose to present yourself. Smiling and holding your head up will always make you feel better even if someone else seems bent on making you feel bad.
You may not be able to adjust anyone else's attitude, but
your positive influence may convince them into having a better experience.
Professional
Appearance
Did you know that the way you look conveys many unspoken
messages? A crisp, clean look demonstrates efficiency and pride. A guest that
is willing to trust your apparent abilities is a pleasure to serve. They will
put their visit in your obviously capable hands and relax and enjoy instead of
worrying that they are receiving sub standard service. Also when you look good,
it’s much easier to feel good and to maintain a positive attitude. Begin each
shift with the proper attire and grooming habits and set the right first
impression. Deodorant is a must while perfumes and colognes are frowned upon.
Clean neat fingernails with no polish are also a must.
Expertise
As in any job, training and education is an ongoing process.
Learning and demonstrating new skills adds to your job interest and broadens
your strengths and capabilities. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and be
willing to learn from your experienced peers and managers. Be confident with
your guests and if you don’t know something – be determined and proactive to
find the answers.
First Impressions
First impressions do not always start once the guest is in
the building. First impressions can begin in the parking lot or front entrance.
These areas need to be kept clean and free of debris, if you see trash lying
around, don’t be afraid to pick it up and dispose of it.
The first greeting should be as soon as the guest enters the
restaurant. Inquire politely how many will be in the party. Please never say
“Just one today” if a guest enters alone.
Tables should always
be neat and clean, condiments full and orderly, booths free of crumbs and
sticky residues, restrooms kept clean and their floors kept free of debris.
Same with the restaurant floor, if you see items dropped on the floor, pick
them up.
Anything that you find disturbing when you go out to dine
and gives you a bad impression of a restaurant are the same things that our
guests can find disturbing. Do what you can to make the right first impression.
Have an awesome day and make more money!
