Special Attention
Special attention can mean many things in the restaurant
business. Making sure the guests have been offered the specials of the day.
Special attention to concerns they may have about particular tastes or food
sensitivities they may have. Getting the extra napkins they requested. The
drinks made just the way they like them.
It could be seating them at their favorite booths.
Remembering what they order and getting it correct for them. Not forgetting the
special occasion they may be celebrating.
A firm handshake or a hug may be in order with some guests.
Others a simple welcome back, it’s good to see you again type of recognition.
Learn as many names as you can of our guests. Make eye
contact and smile at them. Asking about the grandkids or the hobby they enjoy
to share. Buying dessert once in awhile for some of your favorite guests will
continue to have them asking for you as their favorite server.
When we work in a busy place or have more tables/parties
than we can handle, it is easy to treat people only as a face in the crowd. We
need to see everyone as an individual and to take a split second to recognize
them. It’s not impossible; it can be as easy as quick eye contact and a smile
for someone to feel special.
These simple gestures are never wasted.
Take the time to read back the order to clarify each guest’s
request and confirming that it is correct. Not only will this make each guest
feel special it will avoid any disappointment or confusion later, making their
meal and your job more enjoyable. Each detail must be heard and addressed.
Guests will forgive many things, but no one like to feel discounted.
Have an awesome day and make more money!
